Assilah Moussem pays tribute to artist Abdelkrim Ouazzani
ASSILAH - The Assilah International Cultural Moussem paid tribute on Sunday to the Moroccan artist Abdelkrim Ouazzani in recognition of his prolific contribution to contemporary art in the North African kingdom.
This meeting was held under the theme “Sculptor of the Playful” in the presence of academics, art critics as well as eminent members of the artistic and literary.
Secretary General of the Assilah Forum Foundation Hatim Bettioui said that this meeting is in line with the Foundation's long-standing tradition of celebrating leading figures in national artistic creation.
Bettioui stressed that the event “reflects the Assilah Forum Foundation’s constant desire to promote a true culture of recognition and to highlight artists who have profoundly influenced the Moroccan cultural scene.
“Ouazzani was able to combine the Mediterranean heritage of his hometown Tetouan with an openness to international trends, thus forging a personal plastic language which combines sculpture, painting and engraving,” said Bettioui.
Ouazzani said he was “very honored” to receive such a tribute in Assilah, expressing his gratitude to the Assilah Forum Foundation for this initiative.
The artist said the tribute was the idea of the late Mohamed Benaïssa, adding that Benaïssa’s presence was still felt in this edition of the Moussem.
An art exhibition was inaugurated at the Hassan II Center for International Meetings, presenting a selection of artworks by Ouazzani that depicted several stages of his fruitful career.
