EasyJet to open new aircraft base in Marrakech next spring

The long-term partnership signed between the European no-frills airline and the Moroccan National Tourist Office will allow the company to offer a record 4 million seats in the first year of opening of the base.

LONDON - European no-frills airline EasyJet has announced ambitious growth plans in Morocco, made possible by the establishment of a new three-aircraft base in Marrakech next spring.

This long-term partnership signed with the Moroccan National Tourist Office will allow the company to offer a record 4 million seats in the first year of opening of the base.

This new permanent and year-round base in Marrakech will create one hundred new direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs, and will consolidate the company's number 2 position in Marrakech while strengthening its presence in Morocco.

EasyJet has announced the launch of 4 new routes to Morocco, bringing the total number of routes to 46. Hamburg, Lille and Strasbourg will be connected to Marrakech by easyJet from next summer.

The no-frills airline company will fly to 24 destinations from Marrakech. Geneva-Tangier will also be launched as an exclusive line. Several existing lines will also see their frequency increase. This development plan will also be reflected in the easyJet holidays offer.

This year marks the company's 20th anniversary in the Moroccan market, with around 20 million customers transported during this period. The enrichment of the route portfolio will create more opportunities for travelers going to Morocco for business, vacation or to visit loved ones.

In addition to allowing more routes to Morocco, the base will also allow easyJet to increase its capacity and offer new destinations in constrained European airports.

“I am delighted to be announcing this historic partnership and the establishment of a new base in Marrakech. There is no doubt Morocco is a key market for easyJet: we are the largest carrier to Morocco from the UK and from Switzerland, Morocco is our fastest growing market outside Europe and a major destination for our easyJet holidays customers. With this new development and the launch of our base in Marrakech we will expand our leisure and business offer to Morocco from more destinations across Europe than ever before,” said Kenton Jarvis, CEO of easyJet.
