CAPMAS says that 4.9 million tourists visited Egypt in the first half of 2022.

DUBAI - Egypt posted an increase of 85.4% in tourist arrivals in the first half of 2022, with 4.9 million tourists visiting the country, the national statistics agency CAPMAS said on Tuesday.

CAPMAS added that 2.6 million tourists visited the country in the first half of 2021.

The Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities and Aviation issued last week a joint statement announcing the launch of a promotional campaign for Egyptian tourism during the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022.

Tourism revenue is an important source of foreign currency for Egypt and the industry usually accounts for up to 15% of the country's gross domestic product.
