FBI, CIA welcome ‘advanced partnership’ with Morocco’s DGST in fighting terrorism

RABAT - The General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) received Tuesday messages of congratulations and gratitude from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central intelligence agency (CIA) welcoming the level of distinguished cooperation and advanced partnership that links them to the services of Morocco’s intelligence agency in the field of the fight against terrorism and violent extremism with the objective of guaranteeing the safety and security of the citizens of the two countries.

“The head of the New York section of the FBI expressed his deep gratitude and sincere thanks for the cooperation and the important support provided by the DGST, including the specific information that were provided in a timely manner, and which contributed to the neutralization of the terrorist danger,” said a statement from the DGST.

“This information also made it possible to accelerate the investigation carried out by the FBI about the American soldier in connection with the Islamic State group who was planning a terrorist act aimed at killing American soldiers,” it said.

The FBI message stressed that "thanks to the cooperation and strong partnership between the DGST and the FBI, we are together able to guarantee the security of our countries and the safety of our citizens, and to ensure safety for all.”

The CIA said it was "grateful for the leadership and high level of professionalism of the DGST, within the framework of joint security efforts, including those deployed in the fight against terrorism and extremist groups."

The US counterintelligence agency hailed the solid partnership with the DGST.

The messages of the American security agencies came in response to specific information provided by the DGST about the extremist activities of an American soldier, who was preparing terrorist acts targeting American interests and soldiers in the Middle East.

They once again underlined the constant and unwavering commitment of the DGST to strengthen the mechanisms of international cooperation to fight against the risks of terrorism watching out for Morocco’s interests besides those of its regional and international partners.
