MEKNES - The International Animated Film Festival of Meknès (FICAM) announced its 24th edition which will be held May 15-20 in the Moroccan imperial city of Meknès. Organized by the Aïcha Foundation in partnership with the French Institute of Morocco in Meknès, FICAM continues to confirm its status as a premier event for animated cinema in Morocco and across the African continent.
Following the 2025 edition themed "Animation and Video Games"—which drew over 23,000 festival-goers—FICAM continues to explore contemporary creative territories by honouring those shaping the sector's future.
"Youth Making Their Animated Cinema"
Through this theme, FICAM reaffirms its founding mission: to support, train, and reveal young Moroccan creators in the animated film industry. Since its inception, the festival has been actively committed to training, cultural mediation, and knowledge sharing, offering young talents spaces for learning, networking, and professionalization alongside Moroccan and international experts.
Projections, workshops, masterclasses, and professional exchanges serve as catalysts to nurture creativity, stimulate vocations, and strengthen the national animation ecosystem.
Media Literacy at the Heart of FICAM
The school-based component remains a central axis of the festival. Faithful to its commitment to media literacy, FICAM will offer a dedicated educational program featuring screenings of educational films and numerous awareness-raising and hands-on workshops.
These activities will primarily take place at the French Institute of Meknès, allowing a large student audience (6,000 students welcomed during the last edition) to discover the language of animation and develop a critical, creative eye for images.
The 5th Edition of the Animation Film Careers Forum
A highlight of FICAM, the Animation Film Careers Forum will hold its 5th edition from May 15-17. This year’s forum will focus on a critical issue for the sector's future:
"The Relationship Between Training and Employment in the Animated Film Industry"
The Forum aims to create a marketplace of synergy and opportunities, fostering encounters between young talent, Moroccan studios, directors, producers, trainers, and institutions. It is part of a dynamic effort to structure the sector, encourage local production, and facilitate the flow of ideas and skills within Morocco and internationally.
FICAM Maroc: National Outreach
In parallel with the festival, FICAM Maroc will take place from May 13-23 across the French Institute network in Morocco. By extending the experience beyond Meknès, the festival aims to democratize access to animated cinema nationwide and anchor animation culture permanently among young audiences.
The detailed program for the 24th edition will be unveiled soon. FICAM looks forward to seeing you in May 2026 to celebrate a creative, bold youth resolutely focused on the future of animation.
