Morocco’s new coronavirus cases surge to record high

Daily coronavirus cases surge to an all-time high, with authorities reporting 2,922 new infections as government extends public health state of emergency until November 10.

RABAT - Morocco's daily coronavirus cases surged to an all-time high on Thursday, with authorities reporting 2,929 new infections, pushing the overall total to 142,953 as the government extended the public health state of emergency until November 10.

The health ministry said 47 people had died in the last 24 hours, taking the official death toll to 2,486.

Casablanca, the hotbed of the coronavirus pandemic, recorded 1114 cases despite the restrictions measures, including the night curfew, imposed by the government a month ago to help stem the rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the economic capital.

The government extended on Thursday the public health state of emergency until November 10 as all preventive and repressive measures taken will remain in force and will be adapted to circumstances.
