Morocco’s telecom regulator invites bids for 5G network
RABAT - Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) launched a call for tenders for the award of fifth-generation (5G) mobile phone licenses.
Operators were invited Friday to submit their proposals for the establishment and operation of future networks.
The specifications for this deployment set a commercial launch in November 2025, just before the African Cup of Nations (CAN) hosted by the North African Kingdom.
Population coverage targets are set at 25% by the end of 2025 or 2026, and 70% by 2030, the year Morocco will co-host the FIFA World Cup.
The rollout of 5G coverage will initially target major urban areas, economic and industrial hubs, and innovation centres, before expanding to other areas. It is expected that the host cities of the aforementioned sports competitions will have complete coverage by 2030.
This 5G project is part of the national "Digital Morocco 2030" plan, which also includes the connection to fiber optics of approximately 6,300 public administrations by 2026 and 5.6 million households by 2030.
