Morocco arrests perpetrator of apparent sex attack that went viral

Swift response from Moroccan authorities

CASABLANCA — Morocco’s Interior Ministry said Wednesday that authorities have arrested a young man apparently sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a video that went viral on social media and shocked the nation.
The ministry said that the alleged perpetrator was a 21-year-old from southern Morocco while authorities are still searching for the person who filmed the assault.
The video shows an assailant kneeling on top of the teen touching and hitting her as she struggles in the dusty ground to get free.
"Don't you have a sister?" Would you like this to happen to her?"she cries out, as a third person films the assault.
The phrase "don't you have a sister" has started trending on Moroccan social media.
Last month, after years of debate, the country passed a law to combat violence against women that officials said criminalises "acts considered forms of harassment, aggression, sexual exploitation or ill treatment".
Women's organisations said the law passed did not go far enough.
