Morocco dismantles terrorist network

Moroccan anti-terror forces dismantle a terrorist network of four members active in recruiting fighters to join “Daesh” in the Sahel-Saharan zone.

RABAT - As part of the proactive approach to combating terrorist threats, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), dismantled on January 29 and 30 in the cities of Tangier, Casablanca, Béni Mellal and Inzegane, a terrorist network composed of four members active in recruiting and sending fighters to join the Islamic State Group, also known as "Daesh" in the Sahel-Saharan zone.

Investigations revealed that this network coordinates with leaders of this organization in the Sahel-Saharan region with the aim of facilitating extremists to join this area, said the BCIJ in a statement.

“The searches carried out at the homes of the suspects, aged 35 to 40, led to the seizure of several electronic devices, sums of money, bladed weapons in the form of large sabres, hoods, gloves and a rifle,” claimed the same source.

This operation is part of the commitment of the Moroccan security services to face the rising threats posed by "Daesh" and other terrorist organizations, especially in the wake of the incentives emanating from these organisations which are calling on people to join their ranks, particularly in the Sahel.

The suspects were placed in police custody as part of the investigation carried out by the BCIJ, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office responsible for terrorism and extremism affairs, to determine their interconnections with terrorist organisations abroad and reveal their possible terrorist plans.

The accused will be brought before the courts as soon as the investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office is concluded, concluded the BCIJ.
