Morocco reinvigorates film industry with new 150 cinemas

Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication unveils 50 new cinemas, marking the first stage of an ambitious project that seeks to bring access to cinema within everyone’s reach throughout the North African Kingdom.

TAMESNA - Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid unveiled Wednesday from Tamesna 50 new cinemas, marking the first stage of an ambitious project that seeks to bring access to cinema within everyone’s reach throughout the North African Kingdom.

The ministry of culture’s unprecedented initiative is part of a major project of 150 cinemas distributed across the twelve regions of the country, focusing mainly on small and medium-sized towns in a bid to consolidate cultural rights.

Bensaid highlighted this initiative as a cornerstone in the promotion of national talents and in the creation of a new ecosystem for Moroccan artists.

He emphasized the importance of this approach in the cultural revitalization of beneficiary cities, such as Ouarzazate and Tamesna, which will now be able to enjoy their own cinematographic spaces.

The minister welcomed the involvement of cultural associations, particularly film clubs, in the realization of this project.

Young people will pay preferential rates as a result of collaborations with various urban cinemas, illustrating the ministry's commitment to bringing the seventh art closer to the Moroccan public.
