Morocco to repatriate citizens on exceptional flights

Moroccan authorities will exceptionally allow passenger flights to the North African Kingdom from Portugal, Turkey and the UAE.

RABAT - Moroccan authorities will allow exceptionally passenger flights to the North African Kingdom from the following 3 countries: Portugal, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in order to allow Moroccan citizens who actually reside in Morocco and who were stranded following the suspension of flights to come back home.

According to a statement by the COVID Interministerial Monitoring Committee, this operation, which will begin this Wednesday, December 15, concerns exclusively Moroccan citizens who are effectively resident in Morocco and who have recently left the national territory.

The travel costs are borne by the beneficiaries, said the same source, which stated that a health protocol will be applicable as follows:

1. Each passenger will be required to present a PCR test less than 48 hours old prior to boarding;

2. The passengers will be confined for 7 days in dedicated hotels at the expense of the Moroccan government;

3. PCR tests will be performed during the lockdown period every 48 hours;

4. Anyone tested positive at the airport or hotel will be taken care of by the appropriate health authorities.

Morocco continued its policy of fighting the pandemic and protecting its citizens against the new Omicron variant, closing its air and sea borders on November 30 until further notice.
