RABAT - The Moroccan government announced on Saturday a raise in the minimum wage of public and private sector workers, the prime minister’s office said in a statement.
The minimum monthly wage in the public sector will be raised 16%, while the private sector minimum monthly salary will be raised by 10% within two years, according to the statement.
The deal was sealed in an agreement between the government, major labour unions and the federation of employers.
The agreement also includes an increase in family allowance and retirement benefits.
Details
For the public sector:
- The minimum wage would increase to Dh3,500 ($350) net per month.
- Abolition of scale 7 for civil servants belonging to the instances of technical assistants and administrative assistants.
- Increase the share of promotion in the rank from 33% to 36%.
For the private sector:
- 10% increase in the minimum wage, in two stages.
- 5% in September 2022 and 5% in September 2023.
- Revision of the condition of the number of days to benefit from the retirement pension from 3,240 days of affiliation to 1,320 days.
- Allow policyholders who have reached the legal retirement age, with less than 1,320 days of membership, to recover their contributions and those of their employer.
