Morocco reopens embassy in Baghdad
BAGHDAD - Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reopened on Sunday the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad that had been closed for 18 years.
Bourita was accompanied by Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein during the reopening ceremony.
During his one-day official visit, Bourita with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani and parliament Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Halbousi.
The renewed ties between Baghdad and Rabat come eight months after Hussein announced Iraq’s support for Morocco’s territorial unity.
“About the question of the Sahara, Iraq supports the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and the efforts of the United Nations and their central role in reaching a political solution,” said Hussein in Marrakech.
