US, Qatar, Egypt continue efforts on Gaza ceasefire

Qatari Prime Minister says this painful period in the region should come to an end.

DOHA - The United States, Qatar, and Egypt continue their efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and release Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, Qatar's prime minister said on Thursday.

"This painful period in the region should come to an end," said Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who is also the foreign minister, after meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Doha.

Sheikh Mohammed said that US negotiators will meet Israeli negotiators in Doha in an effort to reach a breakthrough.

He said that Qatar’s Al Jazeera network must act if there is a truth to Israel’s accusation against its journalists

“Accusations must be treated with skepticism,” he added.
