UAE confirms prisoner swap between Russia and US

The UAE's foreign ministry confirms that the country has hosted a prisoner exchange between the US and Russia.

DUBAI - The United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the country had hosted a prisoner exchange between the United States and Russia, its state news agency reported on Thursday.

Representatives from both countries were present during the exchange, it said.

The confirmation came few hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin pardoned Ksenia Karelina, a Russian-US national, who was exchanged in a prisoner swap between Moscow and Washington on Thursday, the TASS state news agency reported.

TASS said that Karelina was swapped for Arthur Petrov, a Russian-German held in US custody since 2023.
