Morocco's police chief, Spanish Civil Guard's intelligence chief hold talks in Rabat
RABAT - Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, met on Wednesday in Rabat with Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, Spanish Civil Guard's head of intelligence, during his first international visit since taking office.
The meeting, attended by a high-level Spanish security delegation, highlights the strategic depth of Moroccan-Spanish security ties, particularly in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime, the DGSN-DGST hub said in a press release.
Talks focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation mechanisms in the security field, with both sides stressing the importance of joint efforts to tackle shared regional security challenges and terrorist threats in conflict zones, especially in the Sahel and Sahara region.
The two officials also reviewed ongoing joint security operations that have successfully countered regional and international threats, and discussed coordination in public security ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will co-host.
The meeting underscored the key importance of Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in the security field, as it represents an efficient and regular model of cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism, extremism and irregular migration. This cooperation also reflects both countries’ commitment to deepening their coordination and anticipation in the fight against various common threats and dangers.
