RABAT - Morocco’s Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, paid on May 6-7, a working visit to Vienna at the head of a security delegation representing the DGSN-DGST hub.

This visit is part of the DGSN-DGST delegation's participation in the 22nd meeting of heads of intelligence and security services in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, in addition to Turkey and Pakistan, organized by the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team at the Vienna International Center, according to a DGSN-DGST press release.

The participation of the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance in this multilateral security forum reflects the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to bolstering regional and international security cooperation, as well as its firm commitment to sharing its expertise and pioneering experience in counter-terrorism and the fight against transnational crime with friendly and allied countries, as well as all international partners, the same source added.

Discussions at the meeting focused on the evolution of command structures within “Daesh” and “Al Qaeda,” particularly in light of the loss of traditional strongholds and the emergence of new regional branches and sections, as well as a general assessment of the threats and risks posed by these organizations at regional and international level in the short, medium and long term, according to the press release.

The discussions also analyzed new trends in financial resources, weapons and logistical equipment adopted by “Daesh” and “Al Qaeda,” including mechanisms for concealing and encrypting funds. They also looked at the latest developments in propaganda, media strategy and organizational communication within these terrorist organizations.

In parallel with these activities organized in the light of multilateral cooperation, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance held intensive talks within the framework of bilateral security cooperation relations, with the heads of delegations from the security and intelligence services of several friendly participating countries, including Qatar, Turkey, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

These bilateral talks provided an opportunity to review the various security challenges and threats that require enhanced joint action to address them and counter the risks they pose, as well as to examine ways of promoting security and intelligence cooperation to ensure the consolidation of security and the preservation of stability.

This visit reaffirms Morocco’s privileged position and its crucial role in international security cooperation and reflects the credibility of Moroccan security services with their regional and international partners, as major actors in joint efforts to preserve global security and stability, the press release concluded.
