Morocco’s telecom operators launch 5G
CASABLANCA - Morocco’s leading telecommunication operators - Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and inwi - announced Friday the launch of their long-awaited 5G network this Friday.
With speeds exceeding 2 Gbps, this technology will initially cover the North African Kingdom's main cities few weeks before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations. Compatible smartphones and SIM cards will automatically switch to 5G, while new, tailored plans are being introduced.
The launch of 5G in Morocco will mark a significant milestone in the country's digital journey. It represents a commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology and leveraging its potential to drive economic growth, foster innovation, and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
"For mobile customers, inwi 5G is available immediately and at no extra cost. It is automatically available to all mobile customers without any change to their plan or SIM card. Since inwi SIM cards are already 5G compatible, customers with a compatible smartphone located in a covered area can enjoy this new connected experience," inwi stated.
The operator is also launching several prepaid and postpaid plans, offering data volumes tailored to different uses. For homes, it's launching the "5G i-Box," a plug-and-play solution that guarantees ultra-fast, stable, and secure Wi-Fi for teleworking, gaming, streaming, and more.
"For individuals, whether it's to watch their favorite series in ultra-high definition, organize professional video conferences, or simply stay in touch with loved ones, 5G provides access to everything, everywhere, all the time," said Orange Maroc.
“It also facilitates smart homes, telemedicine, and immersive training, simplifying daily life while bringing Moroccans closer to what matters most. For businesses, 5G opens up new perspectives for Moroccan companies: real-time collaboration, remote control of machines or vehicles, process automation, and accelerated digitalization,” It added.
For businesses, inwi Business's 5G enables innovative uses with the effective deployment of large-scale production automation applications in Industry 4.0 mode: remote maintenance, connected machines, digital twins, and more. Public services will also benefit from this technology, particularly for telemedicine.
A game changer
The leap from 4G to 5G is not merely about faster download speeds for the smartphone. It represents a fundamental shift that can accelerate Morocco's economic and social development, opening doors to innovation across various sectors.
The arrival of 5G is more than a network upgrade; it is the backbone for Morocco's ambitions to become a regional leader in the digital economy. By strategically addressing the challenges and harnessing its vast potential, Morocco can ensure that the 5G revolution drives not just technological progress, but inclusive and sustainable growth for all its citizens. The future is fast, and it's arriving soon.
