Algerian sex offender re-arrested in London
LONDON - An Algerian sex offender, who was mistakenly released from Wandsworth prison on October 29, was re-arrested in North London following a tip off from members of the public.
The British police confirmed the identity of the 24-year-old Brahim Kaddour-Cherif following his arrest in Finsbury Park area.
“It’s not my fault. They released me illegally,” said Kaddour-Cherif during his arrest.
British police said on Thursday they had launched a manhunt for two prisoners, including an Algerian, mistakenly released from Wandsworth jail, angering parliamentarians at the latest mix-up committed by the UK’s beleaguered prison system.
British Justice Secretary David Lammy said in a statement that he was "outraged and appalled" by the mistaken release of the Algerian sex offender and promised to "leave no stone unturned" to fix the issue of mistaken prisoner releases.
Lammy stated the mistaken releases were "completely unacceptable" and that he was "as shocked as anyone". He has vowed to bring in a "digital rapid response unit" in all prisons within 48 hours to reduce human error.
