Over 13 tonnes of cannabis seized in Morocco

Security services seize 13 tonnes and 750 kilograms of cannabis resin in lorry in Tanger Med port.

TANGIER – Moroccan authorities seized Saturday over 13 tonnes of cannabis at the Tanger Med port in the latest drug overhaul operation in the North African country.

Security services said 13 tonnes and 750 kilograms of cannabis resin (hashish) was discovered by sniffer dogs in a lorry intercepted in one of the northern port’s docks.

Last month, the Royal Navy seized more than 300 Kilograms of cannabis aboard a go-fast boat in the Mediterranean.

Moroccan authorities also seized more than a tonne of cocaine near the port city of El Jadida and detained seven people suspected of smuggling the narcotic from South America to Europe.
