Spain seizes 2.3 tonnes of cannabis in cooperation with Morocco

The Guardia Civil carries out the anti-drug operation jointly with Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, arresting two suspected drug traffickers.

MADRID - A cargo of more than 3.2 tonnes of cannabis was seized by Spanish police on Monday near Gran Canaria, off the northwest coast of Africa, thanks to information from Morocco’s Directorate General of Surveillance of the territory (DGST).

According to our sources, two people were on board the rubber boat when it was intercepted and were arrested “without offering resistance.”

The investigations in Spain against drug traffickers are carried out, most of the time, "in close collaboration" with specialized units of the Moroccan police which provide "valuable elements to bring the investigations carried out to a successful conclusion," according to press releases from the Spanish prosecutor's office.
