Baiuca band delivers a grand, dazzling performance at the Royal Theatre in Marrakech as spectators enjoy the Galician Neo-folk music.

MARRAKECH - Spanish band “Baiuca” received Monday night a standing ovation for its grand, dazzling performance at the Royal Theatre in Marrakech as part of the festivities of the 51st edition of the National Popular Arts Festival (FNAP) in Morocco’s ochre city

Spain is the guest of honour at the 51st edition of the National Popular Arts Festival (FNAP) in Marrakech.

As part of the FNAP2022, organized by the Association le Grand Atlas in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Embassy of Spain in Morocco and the Cervantes Institute of Marrakech organized two concerts by the group Baiuca, in partnership with the Sociedad de Artistas Intérpretes o Ejecutantes de España AIE.

The concerts took place on Monday and Tuesday at the Royal Theatre and Jemaa Lefna Square respectively.

Baiuca is the revelation folk project not only in Spain, but also in the world. The mixture of traditional Galician and contemporary electronic rhythms, in a kind of found footage that redefines the codes of traditional Galician music through an absolutely current but also futuristic look, has allowed the band to give almost 90 concerts in just over a year.

Grand, dazzling performance

“This is our first time in Morocco and we are thrilled to represent our Galician music heritage in Marrakech,” said Alejandro Guillán Castaño, artistically known as Baiuca.

“We are inspired by the folkloric Galician music which talks about daily labour in the countryside, love stories and farming with a mix of techno,” Castaño told Middle East Online.

The band is accompanied live by Adrián Canoura, who projects on multi-screens and uses image synthesizers and cameras allowing him to record live and intervene in the projection. It also includes the famous Galician percussionist Xosé Lois Romero and the pandereteiras/cantareiras sisters Andrea and Alejandra Montero, who are singers and dancers.
