Trump says Gaza deal came as war was getting 'bad and heated'

The US President tells the Israeli parliament the Gaza deal agreed between Israel and Hamas was timely.

Tel AVIV - US President Donald Trump said on Monday that a Gaza deal recently agreed between Israel and Hamas was timely, as Israel's military operations were becoming "bad and heated."

"I said, Bibi, you're going to be remembered for this far more than if you kept this thing going, going, going - kill, kill," Trump said in a speech before the Israeli parliament, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"I just want to congratulate you for having the courage to say, 'that's it, we've won and now let's enjoy our lives'."

Trump said that the forces of "jihadism and antisemitism" have failed.

"Together we've shown that peace is not just a hope that we can dream about, it's a reality we can build upon day by day, person by person, and nation by nation," he said.

"It should now be clear to everyone throughout the region that decades of fomenting terrorism and extremism, jihadism and antisemitism have not worked. They haven't worked. They've been a disaster."
