UAE president says he appreciates inclusion of his country in BRICS

Sheikh Mohamed says his country looks forward to a continued commitment of cooperation for the prosperity, dignity and benefit of all nations and people around the world.

DUBAI - United Arab Emirates' President Mohamed bin Zayed said on Thursday he appreciated the inclusion of his country as a member of BRICS and described it as an "important group".

"We look forward to a continued commitment of cooperation for the prosperity, dignity and benefit of all nations and people around the world," he posted on X.

The BRICS group of nations has decided to invite six countries - Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE - to become new members of the bloc.

The expansion of BRICS will inject new impetus to the group's cooperation mechanism, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday.

This expansion has reflected BRICS' determination for unity and cooperation, Xi said at the group's leaders' summit in South Africa's Johannesburg.
