US welcomes Lebanon's aim to bring weapons under state control

The US State Department applauds the Lebanese government's decision to task the Lebanese Armed Forces to bring all weapons under state control.

WASHINGTON - The US welcomes the Lebanese government's decision to task the Lebanese Armed Forces to bring all weapons under state control, a spokesperson for the State Department said on Thursday.

The US has presented Lebanon with a plan for Hezbollah disarmament by year-end, along with ending Israel's military operations in the country and the withdrawal of its troops from five positions in south Lebanon.

Hezbollah supporters of blocked the streets in Beirut with burning tires as they rallied in cars and motorbikes to protest the government’s endorsement of the US plan to disarm the Iran-backed group which rejected the decision to take away its weapons.
