Israeli president plans visit to Bahrain

Herzog will travel to Manama next month where he will meet with Bahraini king, government officials and Jewish community members.

JERUSALEM - Israeli President Isaac Herzog will travel to Bahrain next month, his office said on Thursday, adding that it will be the first visit to the Gulf country by an Israeli head of state.

"The president will visit the capital, Manama, where he will meet with the king, government officials and Jewish community members," said a statement from Herzog's office.

Israel and Bahrain normalized ties in 2020, under Benjamin Netanyahu’s previous government, as part of the US-brokered Abraham Accords, which also established diplomatic relations between the Jewish state and the United Arab Emirates. The accord paved the way for normalization with Morocco months later.
