FICAM to showcase rich program May 21-26
MEKNES - The Meknes International Animation Film Festival (FICAM) is gearing up for its 23rd edition, with a focus on the interaction between animation and video games.
Prestigious names will be present, including Cédric Babouche, renowned director and artistic director in the worlds of film and video games, who will open the festival with an exclusive inaugural conference.
The event will be an opportunity to explore the creative synergies between these two rapidly evolving industries.
This will also open with a unique premiere of "Flow", a multi-award-winning film, which won a César and an Oscar this year, as well as numerous distinctions at the Annecy Festival and attracted over a million spectators worldwide.
Théophile Robert, Production Director of the film, will be present to offer the audience a privileged glimpse of this acclaimed work.
Another highlight of the festival will be the honor of welcoming back Claude Barras, the talented director of "My Life as a Courgette", winner of two César Awards in 2017 and was the opening film of FICAM that same year.
Barras will host an exceptional Film Lesson and present his new film, "Sauvages," also nominated for a César Award in 2025.
This edition celebrates the poetic art of stop motion. The festival will pay tribute to two great African directors: Jean-Michel Kibushi, a pioneer of animated cinema in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zouhaier Mahjoub, a leading figure in stop motion and a Tunisian director.
Festivalgoers will also have the opportunity to discover the film "Hola Frida," inspired by the life of the famous Frida Kahlo, screened in the presence of its director, André Kadi, an unprecedented artistic immersion into the fascinating world of this Mexican icon.
FICAM, which will be held May 21 to 26, is hosting the first edition of the World Cosplay Summit exclusively in Meknes. This international event will celebrate the art of Cosplay, offering enthusiasts a stage to express their creativity and embody their favorite characters from animation and video games.
The winners will have the honour of representing Morocco for the first time at the grand finale, which will be held in Japan.
FICAM will showcase a rich and inspiring program, with all the usual highlights: guests from around the world, students from leading schools, captivating encounters, and exceptional Master Classes.
FICAM promises to be an edition rich in emotions, discoveries, and memorable encounters.
