Morocco’s king receives UN chief

Guterres hails King Mohammed VI's permanent commitment to promoting the values ​​of openness, tolerance, dialogue and respect for differences.

RABAT - Morocco’s King Mohammed VI received Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres, said the Royal Cabinet in a statement.

The UN chief expressed his gratitude to the King for the success of the 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, which is being held in Fez, and welcomed the adoption of a strong and engaging Declaration, more necessary than ever in a troubled international context.

Guterres hailed the King's permanent commitment to promoting the values ​​of openness, tolerance, dialogue and respect for differences.

Guterres also praised the North African Kingdom's constructive and constant contribution to maintaining and consolidating peace, strengthening stability and promoting development, particularly across Africa.

The question of the Moroccan Sahara was also addressed in the light of UN Security Council resolution 2654, adopted on October 27.

The Moroccan monarch reaffirmed his country's constant position for the settlement of this regional dispute on the basis of the autonomy initiative, within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

King Mohammed VI reiterated Morocco's support for the efforts of Guterres and his Personal Envoy Stafan De Mistura to conduct the political process, as well as the MINURSO for the observation of the ceasefire.
