Morocco arrests five suspects for international gold trafficking
OUJDA – Morocco’s police arrested on Wednesday five suspects, including four members of the same family, for their alleged involvement in a criminal network of international gold trafficking, according to a security source.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 68, were arrested during a security operation carried out in the city of Oujda, the same source said, specifying that the searches carried out in three houses operated in the same city resulted in the seizure of 87 small gold bars, weighing a total of 33.130 kilograms, in addition to large sums of money in national and European currency, suspected of coming from this criminal activity.
The same source added that the searches carried out in connection with this case also led to the seizure of two cars, a motorcycle, bladed weapons and an electronic scale, suspected of being used in this criminal act.
The accused were placed in police custody at the disposal of the judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, with the aim of identifying the ramifications of this criminal activity and arresting other persons who may be involved.
