Syria to offer a third mobile telecoms operator licence

Syria's telecommunications authority has finalised its draft licence for a third mobile telecoms operator.

CAIRO - Syria's telecommunications authority has finalised its draft licence for a third mobile telecoms operator, state media reported on Monday.

The authority's statement did not include the financial details of the new licence or the date of its offer.

A decade of civil war and destruction has taken its toll on Syria’s telecoms infrastructure.

MTN Group announced in July 2021 that it could no longer operate in the war-torn country, citing the difficult operating environment, and planned to sell its majority stake in MTN Syria to the other shareholder Tele Invest.
