UK expected to join US in immediate strikes against Houthis

The Times reports British PM briefed his cabinet of ministers on the imminent military intervention as Houthis fire missile into Gulf of Aden, but no damage reported.

LONDON - Britain is expected to join the United States in carrying out overnight air strikes on military positions belonging to the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, the political editor for the Times newspaper reported on Thursday.

British Prime Minister Rish Sunak briefed his cabinet of ministers on the imminent military intervention earlier on Thursday, the report added.

Yemen's Houthis fired an anti-ship ballistic missile into international shipping lanes in the Gulf of Aden on Thursday but the attack did not cause injuries or damage, the US military said.

The missile was seen hitting the water by a commercial vessel, the US Central Command said in a statement, adding that it was the 27th attack by the Iran-backed Houthis on international shipping since November 19.
