RABAT – The eyes of the global law enforcement community will turn towards Morocco in November 24-27 as the North African Kingdom prepares to host the 93th INTERPOL General Assembly.
The prestigious gathering will bring together ministers, police chiefs, and senior officials from nearly 200 countries to address the most pressing challenges in international security and collaborative policing.
The choice of Morocco as the host nation is a significant nod to its growing role as a strategic leader in regional security and a reliable partner in the global fight against transnational crime.
The event is expected to draw over 1,500 delegates to the ochre city of Marrakech which is equipped with world-class facilities for an event of this magnitude.
An agenda for a connected world
Under the broad theme of "Connecting the World for a Safer Future," the 2025 General Assembly will serve as a critical platform for shaping the future of international police cooperation. The agenda is expected to be dominated by several key issues, including the rise of cybercrime, combating terrorism, violent extremism and organized crime networks.
Morocco's strategic role in global security
Hosting the General Assembly reinforces Morocco's position as a bastion of stability and a cross-continental bridge in a complex region. The country has been an active member of INTERPOL since 1957 and has frequently collaborated on international operations targeting drug cartels, human smuggling rings, and terrorist cells.
“Morocco is honored to host this pivotal meeting of the world’s police,” said a senior official from the Moroccan Directorate General of National Security (DGSN). “It is a testament to our commitment to global security and provides an unparalleled opportunity to strengthen partnerships that protect citizens not just in Morocco, but across the globe.”
The General Assembly is more than just a series of meetings; it is INTERPOL's supreme governing body, where crucial decisions are made. Delegates will vote on the organization’s budget, elect members to its Executive Committee, and approve new global policing initiatives.
The 2025 meeting also serves as a symbolic handover, as it will be the first General Assembly presided over by the new President elected at the 2024 meeting in Glasgow, during which Morocco was elected Vice-President for Africa by a majority vote.
As the world grows more interconnected, so do the threats it faces. The INTERPOL General Assembly in Morocco this November stands as a critical juncture for global law enforcement to align its strategies, share intelligence, and forge a united front against the criminal threats of the 21st century. The outcomes from Marrakech will undoubtedly shape international policing efforts for years to come.
